Finacca supports banks, insurers, and credit institutions in the analysis of complex legal, financial, asset-related, and behavioral data. Through this work, financial organizations can investigate sensitive cases while managing client risk more effectively.
The company operates across three main activities. First, it conducts civil investigations related to banking disputes. Second, it investigates dormant life-insurance contracts. Finally, it performs real-estate expertise linked to financial litigation.
However, as the company continued to grow, its internal tools became increasingly difficult to maintain. Therefore, Finacca partnered with us to redesign one of its core business applications. The objective was twofold: deliver a first Version 1.0 quickly using Mendix and, at the same time, prepare a scalable platform capable of supporting additional applications in the future.
1 / Key challenge and overview
Finacca operates in a highly specialized domain: civil investigations related to financial disputes and unclaimed assets. In particular, one of its key activities involves locating beneficiaries of dormant life-insurance policies. This process requires investigators to analyze multiple data sources, legal documents, and investigation workflows.
For years, the company relied on a legacy ERP hosted locally on servers in its Paris offices. At first, the system supported operations effectively. Over time, however, maintaining it became increasingly complex. Security constraints has become stricter, while access remained limited to specific locations. Consequently, adapting the system to evolving business requires significant effort.
At the same time, Finacca wanted to modernize its entire application ecosystem. More specifically, the company aimed to move toward a secured cloud environment accessible from anywhere. In addition, it wanted to reduce technical debt and build a platform capable of supporting future services.
Faced with tight deadlines and the need to optimize costs, Finacca required a solution that could deliver fast without compromising quality. We recommended Mendix as the right technological foundation. As a Global Tech Solutions company with expertise across the low-code landscape, we were best positioned to identify a platform that could meet Finacca’s needs without overcomplicating delivery. When used effectively, Mendix accelerates application development by 3 to 7 times – enabling teams to stay focused on business workflows rather than infrastructure complexity. Finacca could thus concentrate on what it does best: civil investigation and data analysis.
Therefore, the first milestone of this transformation focused on a strategic use case: building a Version 1.0 dedicated to managing investigations related to unclaimed life-insurance policies.
2 / Our approach
- Understanding investigation workflows
To begin with, the project started with a detailed analysis of Finacca’s existing processes. During this phase, our teams worked closely with investigators and business experts. Together, we examined how cases were handled from the initial request to the final report.
As a result, we were able to identify workflow bottlenecks, manual steps, and technical limitations in the legacy system. At the same time, we mapped the full lifecycle of an investigation. Typically, this process begins with a request received from a financial institution and ends with the production of a report and the associated invoicing.
Consequently, this analysis provided the foundation needed to design a platform aligned with the operational reality of investigation teams.
- Proving value with a Proof of Concept
Meanwhile, Finacca launched a rigorous selection process to identify the right technology partner. Several vendors participated in this evaluation, which included the development of a proof of concept.
Within this framework, together with Mendix, we had roughly two weeks to demonstrate the value of the platform. Despite this short timeframe, we developed a working prototype capable of managing investigation workflows and displaying key operational data.
As a result, the proof of concept confirmed two critical points:
• Mendix could significantly accelerate development
• Our project methodology aligned with Finacca’s expectations in terms of collaboration and agility
In addition, the proof of concept allowed Finacca to evaluate how teams would collaborate throughout the project. Consequently, it validated both the technology and the delivery approach.
- Designing the investigation platform
Once the project started, the platform was structured around the full lifecycle of an investigation case.
More specifically, the Version 1.0 had to support the entire operational process:
• receiving investigation requests from financial institutions
• managing research and investigation steps
• compiling legal evidence and documentation
• producing the final investigation report
• managing invoicing and case closure
By covering the process end-to-end, the platform quickly became central to Finacca’s operations.
At the same time, the architecture was designed to integrate with existing tools, including Finacca’s ERP environment. Therefore, the new system could coexist with existing applications while gradually modernizing the company’s technology landscape.
- Building a dedicated delivery team
To deliver the project effectively, we assembled a dedicated squad combining several roles.
The team included Mendix developers responsible for building the application. In addition, a full-time Product Owner from our team worked closely with a Product Owner from Finacca representing the business. The squad also included a solution architect, UX designers, and a project manager coordinating delivery.
Furthermore, the team operated across several locations including Chambéry, Lyon, and Luxembourg. Nevertheless, close collaboration with Finacca’s teams ensured continuous alignment between technical development and business needs.
- Delivering through iterative sprints
The platform was developed through short development cycles. During each sprint, new features and improvements were delivered. Consequently, Finacca’s teams could test functionality early and provide feedback throughout the project.
As a result, the application evolved continuously to reflect real operational requirements. Moreover, this agile approach helped avoid the delays often associated with traditional ERP implementations.
- Preparing the platform for future applications
Although the Version 1.0 focused on investigation workflows, it was designed as the first building block of a broader digital platform.
Therefore, the architecture allows Finacca to extend the system to other activities in the future. For example, the platform can support:
• additional investigation workflows
• new operational processes
• mobile applications for field experts
• AI-assisted document verification and controls
For instance, future capabilities may include automated checks ensuring that legal documents such as birth or death certificates – correspond correctly to the investigation file.
3 / Benefits
- A secure and accessible cloud platform
First of all, the new system is hosted in a secure cloud environment. Consequently, investigators can access the platform from anywhere, removing the limitations of the previous on-premise infrastructure.
- Faster development and reduced technical debt
Secondly, using Mendix allowed Finacca to modernize its system quickly. In contrast to the legacy ERP, the new platform offers a maintainable architecture with significantly reduced technical debt.
- Improved productivity for investigation teams
Moreover, investigators now work with a platform designed around their workflows. As a result, manual tasks are reduced and case management becomes more efficient.
- A platform ready to evolve
Finally, the architecture enables Finacca to progressively integrate additional applications and business processes on the same foundation.
- Preparing for AI and automation
Looking ahead, the platform also prepares the ground for advanced capabilities. For example, automated document verification and AI-assisted investigation workflows may further improve efficiency and reliability.
Ready to modernize your business applications?
Today, many organizations in banking, insurance, and regulated industries face the same challenge: legacy systems slow down operations and make innovation difficult.
However, platforms such as Mendix offer a practical way to modernize business applications while accelerating delivery.
At CBTW, we support organizations in redesigning their digital platforms – delivering working solutions quickly while preparing the foundations for future innovation.
